Digital technology has rendered those tasks obsolete for commercial purposes. Most anyone can operate a digital camera today. And with the aid of apps, photo editing has made even a novice quite proficient.
What you and your amateur photographer friend lack, however, is training in composition, light, and colors. As part of my college education, I obtained extensive knowledge in those principles of design that make photos great. Utilizing those principles comes naturally when I compose a scene for photos.
